The 2016 Society of Composers, Inc. Student National Conference solicits submissions for compositions, installations, and papers. The conference will take place at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, November 17-19. Any full or half-time student currently enrolled in a high school or university may submit works for consideration.

Submissions which are less than 10 minutes in length will receive preference, and composers who can provide their own performers are especially welcome. Submissions of electroacoustic works, performances that involve technology, and installations are also encouraged.

Ball State University Faculty and Graduate students may be available to perform pieces on the following instrumentation (in either solo or small ensemble combinations):

Flute; Trumpet, Viola; Viola Choir; Classical Guitar; Percussion; Percussion Ensemble; Saxophone; Saxophone Quartet; Women’s Chorus; Small Chamber Choir; Piano; Organ; Clarinet, Bassoon; Solo Soprano; Horn; Harp; Trombone.

The availability of large ensembles is still being determined, but works for concert band will be considered.

All composers and presenters who have works selected for presentation are required to attend the conference. No works will be performed unless the composer is present.

The registration fee will be determined and posted at a later date.

Compositions

Deadline: July 20th, 2016

Composers may submit a single composition. Preference will be given to works less than 10 minutes in duration.

Works may be for a variety of instrumentation, and may include electroacoustic resources. Works for audio playback only and installations will also be considered. Ball State can provide 8-channel audio diffusion in a variety of speaker arrangements.

Composers are also encouraged to bring their own performers.

Scores will be selected by the ensemble directors/performers and the Conference Committee. Notification of selection will be sent by August 5th, 2016.

Papers

Deadline: July 20th, 2016

Paper presentations are limited to twenty minutes. Students may submit both a single composition and a single paper for consideration.
